Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport
Pick-up from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to your lodge near Arusha National Park.

Day 2: Arusha National Park
The small, incredibly diverse park is dominated by Tanzania’s second highest mountain, Mt. Meru (4566 m) and its huge horseshoeshaped crater.Numerous buffalo, giraffes, zebras, various species of antelope, elephants, warthogs and other animals live in the fascinating landscape of savannah and mountain forest, lakes, waterfalls and volcanic craters. The forests provide a home for the impressive black and white Colobus monkeys. Seasonally, flocks of flamingos gather at the Momella Lakes. A short hike accompanied by a ranger will bring you closer to the diverse flora and fauna from a completely different perspective.

Day 3: South Amboseli / Enduimet Wildlife Reserve
Game viewing in the South Amboseli area by off-road vehicle and on foot, accompanied by a ranger. The Enduimet Game Reserve, which borders Amboseli NP on the Tanzanian side of the border, is home to elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, elands, the rare gerenuks and many more. The old, abandoned Sepiolite mines of Sinya attract a variety of bird species and the mighty Kilimanjaro offers a magnificent backdrop when the weather is clear.

Day 4: Mkomazi National Park
On a less traveled route along the Kenyan border, you will circumnavigate the northern side of Kilimanjaro towards Mkomazi NP. There are great views of the snow-covered peak, clear weather provided. To the north lie the endless expanses of Amboseli and Tsavo.
Afternoon game drive in Mkomazi NP. Mkomazi is still an unknown, hidden gem. It is home to all the Big Five and offers spectacular scenery.

Day 5: Mkomazi National Park / Rhino Sanctuary
Game drives in Mkomazi National Park. In addition to the over 400 bird species found here and the famous Big Five, there is the chance to observe some species that are very rare elsewhere in Tanzania – e.g., wild dogs, oryx, gerenuks, vulture guinea fowl. A visit to the recently opened Mbula Rhino Sanctuary in Mkomazi offers the rare opportunity to experience this fascinating colossus up close. The nearby wild dog breeding project prepares these skilled hunters for their release into the wild.

Day 6: Mkomazi Nationalpark / Drive back to Usa River
After a morning game drive in Mkomazi National Park, drive back to African View Lodge. A stop in Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, offers the opportunity for a short stroll and, depending on the weather, perhaps another view of the snow-covered Kibo.

Day 7: “Coffee Walk” / Drive to Karatu
The slopes of Mt. Meru are home to some of East Africa’s finest Arabica coffee – one of Tanzania’s major exports. 95% of these aromatic beans are grown on local smallholder farms. During your “Coffee walk” you will experience the daily life of the Meru farmers in the area and learn interesting facts about coffee growing, harvesting and processing. On your way towards Usa River, you will pass a forest, where you may have the chance to watch the impressive Colobus monkeys. In the afternoon, you will drive via the Great Rift Valley to Karatu, at the foot of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater / Serengeti National Park
Morning game drive inside the famous Ngorongoro Crater which has been labelled a “Garden of Eden” and, since 1978, is part of UNESCO’s World Nature Heritage. Here you have a good chance to see all of the “Big 5”. Apart from elephant, buffalo, leopard and many lions there are also more than 20 rhino which inhabit the crater, sharing the only 260 square-km wide area with countless wildebeest, antelope, zebra and almost nearly every other specie prevailing in the East African fauna.
Afterwards you will proceed on towards Serengeti NP. The road winds through impressive mountain forest, along the rim of Ngorongoro Crater before descending onto the short grass plains of Serengeti. On the way, you’ll enjoy fantastic, scenic views of the mighty volcanoes and the vast plains which are only interrupted by “kopjes” – “heads”, as these granite rocks are called.

Day 9: Serengeti National Park
Serengeti is a paradise for grazers. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, and other animals such as zebra and Thompson’s gazelle, are roaming through this unique ecosystem on their annual migration, always followed by lions and hyenas hunting for prey. Whilst on a game drive in Serengeti NP, you are most likely to spot elephant, buffalo, giraffe, ostrich and many other different species of fauna. If you’re lucky, you may come across a cheetah or even a leopard which is resting in a tree during the day. Crocodiles and hippos can be found in or at the rivers.

Day 10: Serengeti National Park / Tarangire National Park
Game viewing in the Serengeti NP and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on the way to Tarangire NP. Evening game drive in Tarangire NP where huge Baobab trees provide a spectacular background. The Tarangire River and the swamps in the southern part of the park attract plenty of game, especially during the dry season. The park is particularly famous for its large herds of elephants which carry impressive tusks.

Day 11: Tarangire National Park / Departure
Game drive in Tarangire NP. Proceed to Arusha Airstrip (ARK) for late afternoon Auric Air departure to Zanzibar. (B/L/-)
