The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest game reserve, renowned as the site of the annual Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope – mostly wildebeest — migrate to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. This epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Home to the Big Five, a trip to Tanzania without the Serengeti is not a safari at all.

Our day-to-day itinerary

(click on the day to expand)

Day 1: Flight to Serengeti

Transfer from Usa River or Arusha to Arusha Airport (ARK) for your scenic flight in a propeller aircraft over the East African Rift Valley. During the trip you will fly over Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Highlands and maybe it’s crater, before landing in the short grassy plains of the Serengeti (routing depending on airline!). Along the way you can enjoy fantastic views of the volcanoes dotted around the highlands and the endless plains which are decorated with solitary kopjes, the name given to these smooth, granite rock formations. Your driver-guide will be awaiting your arrival at Seronera airstrip.

On the way to the camp you will undertake your first game drive. Our mobile tented camp follows the never-ending circle of life in the Serengeti. During the year, we choose the most spectacular locations within the park so we can erect the camp as close as possible to the large, migrating herds of thousands of wild animals. Our camp forgoes any unnecessary luxury but offers everything you need to make your stay in the wild as comfortable as possible. Here, you can genuinely enjoy a real ‘sundowner’ and experience game viewing from your own ‘doorstep’.

Accommodation: Serengeti View Camp. (-/-/D)

Day 2 and 3: Serengeti NP

The next two days will be spent exploring this park. The wide, open savanna plains of the Serengeti are a paradise for grazers. During their annual migration, thousands of wildebeest, zebras and antelope move continuously through this worldwide unique ecosystem on the search for fresh grazing areas. Lions and hyenas follow the herds in the hope of an tasty meal. During the game drives in the park you are most likely to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, ostriches and many other species and, with a little luck, cheetahs hunting or even a dozing leopard lying in the fork of a tree. Along the sand banks of the rivers, crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves whilst the depths of the waters are closely guarded by pods of tightly-packed hippos.

Accommodation: 2x Serengeti View Camp. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Return flight to Arusha

After breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive on the way to the airstrip. Return flight to Arusha and transfer to Arusha town or Usa River or; optional flight to Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro International Airport or to other destinations in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya or Rwanda. (B/-/-)
