Safari highlights in short
Mkomazi National Park is a hidden gem! The spectacular landscape of Mkomazi is home to all the “Big Five” as well as a range of species rarely seen elsewhere in Northern Tanzania, wild dogs, lesser kudu, gerenuk and oryx among them. Birders will find paradise, with around 400 species recorded, including five endemic ones.
The most fascinating experience in Mkomazi NP is undoubtedly a visit to the Rhino Sanctuary, where these impressing animals can be spotted at close range.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: drive to Mkomazi National Park
Early pick-up from African View Lodge, Kilimanjaro Airport or your hotel in Moshi. Drive along the Pare Mountains to Same and further to Mkomazi View Camp. After hot lunch in the camp afternoon game drive.

Day 2: Mkomazi National Park
Full day game drive in Mkomazi National Park. You pass the Dindira Dam, a popular spot for observing elephants, lions, giraffes, gazelles and baboons, who like to come there to drink water. If you are lucky, you find even some rare species such as wild dogs, oryx, lesser kudu, giraffe gazelle, and vulturine guineafowl. The park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with 400 species, including five endemic ones.

Day 3: Rhino Sanctuary / drive back to Moshi, Kilimanjaro Airport or African View Lodge
After an early morning game drive, you will visit the Rhino Sanctuary where you can watch the rare and endangered black rhinos from a very close range.
Afterwards, you’ll return to Moshi, Kilimanjaro Airport, or African View Lodge. On the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, if the weather is clear.
Mkomazi View Camp
Our cozy intimate camp, with currently 6 furnished ensuite tents is situated in the north-western part of the park near the new Mbula Rhino Sanctuary and Dindira Dam. Surrounded by the rolling hills of the Pare Mountains, it is located on a slope with stunning views of the Watershed Valley, popular with eland, impalas, zebras, giraffe and Bohor reedbuck.
